She’s not just the queen of freediving. Today, Alessia Zecchini is a symbol of awareness, determination, and commitment to a healthy lifestyle. In this interview, we didn’t talk about records or depths. Instead, we went deep within, into her way of living, listening to her body, and seeking wellness every day.

Longevity and health: a new challenge
Just a few days ago, Alessia began an advanced prevention journey with Cerba HealthCare Italia by starting the Longevity Program.
“It was truly surprising,” she says. “Not only for the professionalism and warm welcome, but especially for the depth of the analysis. A report almost 40 pages long, explained in detail, helped me truly understand what my body needs.”
The value of prevention
For a champion who knows her body like a musician knows their instrument, it’s striking to hear how much she appreciated the scientific and human-centered approach of the program.
“We often do tests without really understanding what they mean. Here, instead, I received clear, detailed, and personalized explanations.”
She adds:
“Our body is always speaking to us, but we don’t always listen. When symptoms appear, it’s often already too late. Prevention is essential.”

A freediver’s life, even out of water
When she’s not traveling or competing, Alessia follows a routine of training, healthy eating, breathing exercises, and stretching.
“I try to keep a balance: to train, but also to find space for myself. I aim for at least eight hours of sleep, eat natural foods, and drink lots of water. I grew up with my grandmother in the countryside, and she taught me the value of authenticity.”
And yet, she confesses, it’s not always easy.
“Rest is the part I tend to neglect, but I know how crucial it is, especially before a competition.”
Freediving, health, and awareness
I ask which health metrics she considers essential to monitor daily.
“For freedivers, hemoglobin and hematocrit are key, oxygen transport is everything. But also lung health, muscle condition, and body composition.”
Alessia is used to pushing past limits, but always with deep respect for her body:
“We’re like a Ferrari. If we always drive it at 50 km/h, it’s a waste. We need to know ourselves, fuel ourselves properly, train, and listen to our needs.”
A message to take deep
When she closes her eyes and thinks of the sea, the first word that comes to mind is peace.
“The blue embraces me. Freediving entered my life when I was 13, and by 14 I was already dreaming of becoming its ambassador.”
And 30 years from now?
“I still see myself in the sea—maybe with a family—but always connected to this passion. Because that’s what truly matters: having a passion and nurturing it.”
As the interview comes to an end, Alessia shares a message that’s simple yet powerful:
“Taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury, it’s a smart choice. Doing it today allows us to live better tomorrow.”
From our side, all we can do is thank her, and wish that her next records, both in water and in life, are even deeper.
