{"id":3770,"date":"2025-04-28T14:45:17","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T12:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/?p=3770"},"modified":"2025-04-28T14:45:17","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T12:45:17","slug":"insta360-ace-pro-2-underwater-our-real-world-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/insta360-ace-pro-2-underwater-our-real-world-test\/","title":{"rendered":"Insta360 Ace Pro 2 underwater: our real-world test"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After years of lugging heavy DSLRs and bulky underwater housings on our dive trips, this year we decided it was time for a change: no DSLR, just action cams.<br>We packed the brand-new <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insta360.com\/it\/product\/insta360-ace-pro2\">Insta360 Ace Pro 2<\/a><\/strong> alongside our trusted <strong>X4<\/strong> for a week of intense diving adventures in Sharm El Sheikh with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cameldive.com\/\">Camel Dive Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My son Lupo and I switched cameras each day, diving among wrecks, caves, and vibrant reefs to truly push the Ace Pro 2 to its limits.<br>No filters, no heavy editing: just the camera, a couple of LED lights, and the Red Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Underwater Sharm Unlocked - Insta360 Ace Pro 2\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/N92SCkyngYA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First dives with the Ace Pro 2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing you notice about the Ace Pro 2 is how incredibly easy it is to use, even for non-experts.<br>Its <strong>2.5-inch flip screen<\/strong> and <strong>customizable quick modes<\/strong> make navigating menus effortless \u2014 even underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official underwater housing, rated for <strong>up to 60 meters<\/strong>, proved to be solid and reliable throughout our <strong>14 dives<\/strong>: no leaks, no flexing, no condensation.<br>Seals and anti-fog insert slots are well designed, giving peace of mind dive after dive.<br>A shallow test before your first deep dive is still recommended, although the Ace Pro 2 is <strong>waterproof up to 12 meters<\/strong> even without a case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Underwater performance: PureVideo in action<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We tested both <strong>8K 30fps<\/strong> and <strong>4K 60fps PureVideo<\/strong> modes. In the end, <strong>4K<\/strong> was the clear winner underwater for several reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Better low-light performance<\/strong>: PureVideo, available only up to 4K, reduces noise and enhances clarity \u2014 crucial for underwater scenes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Smoother footage<\/strong>: 60fps makes swimming, drifting, and fish chasing look far more natural and fluid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduced risk of motion artifacts<\/strong>: In 8K, tiny shakes are amplified. 4K is more forgiving, perfect for the constant movement underwater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lighter files<\/strong>: 8K footage is massive. 4K files are easier to manage and transfer between dives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unlocking PureVideo\u2019s power<\/strong>: This low-light technology, which truly shines underwater, currently supports up to 4K only.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/insta-acepro2-subacquea-2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/insta-acepro2-subacquea-2.jpg\" alt=\"insta360 ace pro 2 setup\" class=\"wp-image-3771\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/insta-acepro2-subacquea-2.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/insta-acepro2-subacquea-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/insta-acepro2-subacquea-2-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/insta-acepro2-subacquea-2-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.daturi.com\/qwerty\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/insta-acepro2-subacquea-2-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Testing the limits: wrecks, caves, and low light<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ace Pro 2 faced several real-world challenges \u2014 and delivered.<br>Inside the dark, sediment-filled corridors of the <strong>Million Hope wreck<\/strong>, PureVideo captured usable, detailed footage with well-balanced colors and noise control \u2014 noticeably outperforming other cameras we\u2019ve tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At <strong>Ras Mohammed National Park<\/strong>, we ventured into a shallow cave illuminated only by beams of light piercing through the ceiling. With Lupo in front and the Ace Pro 2 in hand, we captured stunning atmospheric footage \u2014 where even our beloved X4 struggled to keep up.<br>The Ace Pro 2 handled low-light conditions impressively, preserving color and depth, enhancing the emotional beauty of natural light play underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Video quality: wow, even without lights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Underwater, the Ace Pro 2 truly shines.<br>Its new <strong>1\/1.3&#8243; 8K sensor<\/strong> and <strong>Leica Summarit lenses<\/strong> produce exceptionally clear, sharp footage with soft shadows and excellent detail retention \u2014 especially between <strong>10\u201315 meters<\/strong>.<br>Beyond that depth, as expected, colors begin to fade, so we occasionally supplemented with a pair of LED lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>flat color profile<\/strong> is perfect for creators who want flexibility for color grading, although the footage looks stunning straight out of the camera.
